Porcelain Veneers: Flawless & Beautiful
Feb. 18, 2007 — MIAMI, BOCA RATON, and FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Actors, politicians and other powerbrokers wouldn’t consider leaving home these days without a perfect smile. They know, and we know, people judge us within moments of our meeting.
With so many flashy smiles all around us, consumers are learning that modern cosmetic dentistry has made creating a perfect smile more accessible than ever.
The application of porcelain veneers is one of the most popular methods top aesthetic dentists use to improve discolored and badly shaped teeth. Thanks to such popular television shows as ABC-TV’s “Extreme Makeover” and Fox’s “The Swan,” the use of veneers has rapidly risen in prominence to become a vital part of the smile-makeover process. A major contributing factor to their popularity is the ease with which these ultra-thin shells of ceramic material can be implemented.
Because our dental team at South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry is familiar with the many veneer materials and technologies available — including the popular da Vinci veneers — we can design a tailored dental plan that will fit your budget and soon have you smiling wide.
THE PROCEDURE
The entire process requires approximately three appointments. We’ll first take a full-mouth x-ray series and, in most cases, create a wax model to serve as a template for your new veneers. During this comprehensive exam, we’ll analyze your occlusion (or bite); the proportion of your teeth to your face and smile; and the elements of your smile line. We’ll then work with you to establish a “plan of action.”
Your second appointment will require about one-to-three hours, depending on the extent of work required. At this time, we’ll buff your teeth to make room for the new porcelain shells. We’ll then cast a mold of your teeth, which the dental lab will use to tailor the veneers to your specifications. We may fit you with temporary veneers until your permanent ones are ready.
We’ll require about one-to-two hours for your third appointment. After assessing the fit and color of your new veneers, we’ll roughen your original teeth with a chemical to ensure the surface is more amenable to bonding. Finally, we’ll apply a special cement, seat the new veneers and expose them to a special cement-curing light.
MAINTAINING YOUR SMILE
We ask you check back with us in one or two weeks for a follow-up, but good oral hygiene is all you’ll really need to maintain your veneers. Remember to brush and floss daily and you’re good to go.
Keep in mind, however, that just as with new glasses, new shoes or a new car, you’ll experience a brief period of adjustment. Your teeth have changed in size, shape and beauty. Hopefully, adjusting to the new beauty of your smile will be the most difficult adjustment you’ll have to make.
ENJOY!
You’ll find your new veneers are highly resistant to staining; be it from food, drink, or even cigarette smoking. You also can count on your new smile to last a lifetime. The porcelain material is most durable and the bonding process is seamless, preventing possible slippage.
You might actually say veneer replacements are as rare as hen’s teeth – and far more attractive.
