In a study conducted by Beall Research & Training of Chicago on behalf of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), researchers found that an improved smile will make cosmetic dentistry patients seem more successful, interesting, and intelligent – in addition to being more attractive. Researchers showed photos of eight people before and after cosmetic dentistry to 528 survey respondents, who represented a cross section of the American population.
Upon viewing the pictures, respondents were asked to quickly judge the patients in the photos based on whether they were more attractive, more intelligent, happier, more successful in their career, friendlier, more interesting, wealthier, kinder, more popular with the opposite sex, and more sensitive. The “after” pictures of the individuals with cosmetic dentistry scored higher in every category, with particularly big jumps in the scores for attractiveness and wealth.
